In response, or addition, to Jesse Thorn’s Country Music Self-Improvement Project. I submit A Night in The Box as recent proof there is amazing music to be had in the country and bluegrass genre. Their song The Hustle is a thing to behold when performed for an audience who know the words. Their live performances in general are great, but that song turns it from a concert to a revival at first stomp.

Here’s a clip of A Night in The Box performing The Hustle in front of a somewhat subdued, but I hope appreciative audience. Performance starts @ 3:30. The song’s about a preacher who is ripping off his congregation, financially and spiritually — so when they say things like “Jesus is a fucking joke.” its meant to be in character. Though Jeez-o is pretty funny.
