I’ve been DJing since ‘99ish. Roc Raida was a huge influence on me and everyone I came up with. He’ll be missed, sincerely.
Our good buddy Artoo opened for Themselves and Busdriver two weeks ago in San Diego. Just got some video back via parkerc41. Check out the whole show, including Busdriver’s set on Parkerc41’s youtube channel.
Voting for the Grape Juice Records T-Shirt Contest is all done!
As promised, the winning design will be unveiled September 3rd at Double Door in Chicago at the Grape Juice Records Five Year Anniversary Party.
The line up for the party is HUGE, and Phillip Morris is headlining, making him the HUGEST. Check out his live vid from the Going Green concert at Q4.
Get a preview of Artoo and Gordon Krum’s summertime EP, FTW on giantsquidrecords.com. Get the full album on the 24th @ Black Gate Sessions in Chicago when Artoo hosts The Definition with Raashan Ahmad of Crown City Rockers, and Maker. RSVP on Facebook.

Got the new Wale mixtape over the weekend. As expected, lots more DC and PG shoutouts, which I’ll take to heart forever. Like the past couple 9th Wonder projects, the production was undercooked and underwhelming. He was recycling more than usual.
However, the Daptone Records crew (in the form of Mark Ronson) contributed a nice piece for the track Um Ricka f/ K’Naan. This might be recycled from an old Daptone project, and I might be eating my own words, but it wasn’t something I’d heard before.

I was lucky enough to meet DRM from Bastard Jazz Recordings over the weekend at DEFinition. I swore up and down to him that I used to play his records on my college radio show, but I couldn’t remember what album. I’m pretty sure he thought I was bullshitting him, but I found the track. I bullshit you not!
It was Easter Island by Master Mosquito off of the Hear No Evil EP. Came out in 2002, plenty of time to hear it before Humble Drums radio in 2004.
