Wale and 9th Wonder Mixtape
Tuesday, June 23rd, 2009Got the new Wale mixtape over the weekend. As expected, lots more DC and PG shoutouts, which I’ll take to heart forever. Like the past couple 9th Wonder projects, the production was undercooked and underwhelming. He was recycling more than usual.
However, the Daptone Records crew (in the form of Mark Ronson) contributed a nice piece for the track Um Ricka f/ K’Naan. This might be recycled from an old Daptone project, and I might be eating my own words, but it wasn’t something I’d heard before.
Audio of Wale – Um Ricka f. K’Naan (prod Mark Ronson). From “Back to the Feature” mixtape.

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009There are over 50 t-shirts available for $20 or less right now on alwaysurban.com. Sure we’ve always had t-shirts for $20, but we never thought to count how many. There’s a lot of them, and some truly awesome ones.
A prime example below. Anenberg’s Bandito T-Shirt in Charcoal.

Bastard Jazz
Monday, June 15th, 2009I was lucky enough to meet DRM from Bastard Jazz Recordings over the weekend at DEFinition. I swore up and down to him that I used to play his records on my college radio show, but I couldn’t remember what album. I’m pretty sure he thought I was bullshitting him, but I found the track. I bullshit you not!
It was Easter Island by Master Mosquito off of the Hear No Evil EP. Came out in 2002, plenty of time to hear it before Humble Drums radio in 2004.
Audio preview. Get it on iTunes.
