Pony Attack Interview

http://www.thisisponyattack.com/

Tell us about how you came up with the name of your brand?

When Nathan was the Art Director at Foundation Skateboards he was always scouting new artists and would send me random artwork by people. One time he sent me this line drawing of a pony huffing and the title was Pony Attack and I really liked it. I still to this day cannot find the artwork/artist again so I can’t give credit of the actual piece although I wish I could.

Tell us about how you came up with your logo?

Our logo is actually Nathan’s handwriting. It’s more of an anti logo, kinda hap-hazard crappy handwriting.

What should your fans/customers know about your brand that they might not know?

I think the best thing about our line is that we just make things that we enjoy. We don’t really think about “oh will this sell” we just think Oh I think that’s funny or would want to wear it so we make it. Most of our designs are made from inside jokes, and our guest artists are a lot of the time just friends doodles we liked and asked to use. Also that we do everything just the two of us, and that the whole company is ran out of a bedroom in our house.

What should your fans/customers know about your current line/designs that they might not know?

We call our line Androgynous – some people don’t really know what that means. Fancy word for tees that can go from your boyfriends closet to yours or vice versa.

What inspired you to start your company?

Boredom, creativity, a lot of beer, funny and inspiring friends. It was actually very organic. We never knew it would become what it has. We starting printing shirts on the weekends and people actually wanted to buy them.

What inspired you to start designing?

Building forts as a kid.

Do you remember when you first realized that design/fashion design would be what you did professionally?

First pay check. Realizing - wow I can get paid for this??

What can you say that might convince someone to never buy clothes at the mall again?

Beyond just the lack of individuality that the mall offers supporting smaller operations and brands is so much more fulfilling. Knowing where your money is going, having that feel of walking into a shop and the owner pulling out new things he thinks you would like – because he knows you and knows everything in his store, knowing the passion that people put into small companies. There is nothing that can compare to that.

Any, shout outs, plugs?

Larry David, our two pugs Chloe and Henry, and all of our friends whom have helped us out pro-bono or payed full price for a tee.

What are a few websites you have to hit everyday?

yewknee.com, bonadrag.com, cuteoverload.com, fecalface.com, fashionista.com, ebay.com, designspongeonline.com, ffffound.com, www.thisisponyattack.com, random friends blogs.. and kimmy is addicted to social networking.

What is your most prized possession?

Besides my two dogs.. I will have to go with my Iphone. – Kimmy

My record collection or my beard – Nathan

Random fact about you.

Kimmy-
- I won a beauty contest at this bar called the beauty bar. During the swimsuit portion I wore a full bodied wetsuit, and for talent I beer bonged while double dutch jump roping. If I would have won the next round I would have gotten to go to Vegas and meet John Waters.

Nathan-
- I have no tattoos, and have never broken a bone. Having worked for skateboard companies for 6 years most people think this is weird.
